Once in while, you come across something which just grabs you. A work of art, piece of music or a picture. Maybe it’s the progression of chords in a song, the way melodies interact with each other. The work of art could be an old oil painting from an artist long gone which captures an expression or scene, or it could be a spontaneous picture you stumble across on the internet. For whatever reason, we are captivated and something in our soul is awakened and time stands still.
Yeah, so .. this gem cropped up on Facebook and I thought I’d share what it brought to mind. The image is of a humorous exchange between, I am guessing, a fictional Sheikh and his son who is studying abroad.
If there is one taboo topic, one elephant in the room in the church, it’s the Tithe. High on the list of topics which can evoke strong feelings. As Christ followers there are of course other topics which get our blood pressure up but they come and go with the seasons. Subjects which easily get us vocal might be women priests, homosexuality or moving the church service forward by an hour. All these can spark debate and flush our cheeks. But the Tithe? That might raise our blood pressure a bit, yet on this topic we will remain silent.
Just as water can bubble out of the ground to form a spring at the lowest point in the forest, it seems that God can bubble out of us at even the low points in our lives. Continue reading
